The quick verdict
Full verdict ↓Great for Children of 8 and up who ask where relatives live or where the next holiday might be
Think twice if Your children are still learning the continents; cities are harder to pin down than animals
How we rate it
Learning curve. Skillmatics says two minutes to learn, which puts it at 1 on our scale with UNO. Placing a city, not the rules, is the hard part.
Luck & skill. Which city you draw is luck; some are household names and others are not. Knowing the world and asking questions that rule out whole continents decide most games.
Interaction. The two sides take turns asking and answering, and teammates talk over each question; nobody blocks or attacks.
Set-up. Shuffle the city cards and give each side three clue cards; there is nothing else to set up.
Reading. Guessers only talk, but the card-holder reads the English buzz words, clues and bonus question aloud, so young children need a reading partner.
Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

Great if
- Children of 8 and up who ask where relatives live or where the next holiday might be
- Families who enjoy trivia about food, landmarks and famous nicknames
- Two teams at a get-together, such as cousins against parents
- Long drives and train journeys, since it is a small box of cards
Skip it if
- Your children are still learning the continents; cities are harder to pin down than animals
- No one in your group can read the English clues aloud
- You want a game with more decisions than choosing good questions
How Guess in 10: Cities Around the World plays
Set-up: shuffle the 50 city cards and hand each player, or each of two teams, three clue cards for the whole game. Skillmatics' rules turn three or more players into two teams, and the youngest side starts.

- Reading and language: The cards are in English: city names, buzz words, clues, facts and the bonus question, which the card-holder reads aloud. You can ask and answer in Hindi or any language your family uses. We found no Hindi or regional-language edition.

A turn, step by step
- 1Hint
The other side draws a city card, keeps it hidden and reads you its first two buzz words.
- 2Ask
Ask up to 10 yes-or-no questions, such as 'Is it a capital?', and make up to two guesses. A clue card buys one of the card's three numbered clues.
- 3Bonus
Guess right and you keep the card. You can risk it on the bonus question to hear all three buzz words next turn.
- 4Win
The first player or team to collect 7 city cards wins.
The full explanation: how a game of Guess in 10: Cities Around the World goes
Each card shows a city on one side. The other side has three buzz words, three numbered clues, some facts and a bonus question. In Skillmatics' how-to picture, the buzz words 'Asia' and 'Skyscrapers' lead to questions like 'Is it a capital?' and 'Is it in south-east Asia?', and the answer is Kuala Lumpur.
On your turn the other side draws a card and reads you its first two buzz words. Ask up to 10 yes-or-no questions; a question the card-holder can't answer doesn't count. You get two guesses. When you're stuck, play a clue card and choose clue 1, 2 or 3. Skillmatics' sample cards give clues such as dim sum coming from Hong Kong, or Kuala Lumpur's short name, KL.
Guess right and you keep the card, then choose whether to try the bonus question, such as naming more American cities with two words in their names. A right answer earns you all three buzz words on your next card; a wrong one costs you the card you just won. The first side to collect 7 cards wins.
Tip: with cities you often have to work out the country first, so early questions about the continent, whether it's a capital and whether it's by the sea save a lot of guessing. The deck isn't only foreign cities: Skillmatics' photos show an Agra card next to Athens, London, Tokyo and Las Vegas.

What reviewers and players say
We found no independent reviews or forum threads about this deck. Skillmatics' own blog sells it as travelling without leaving your living room, and its sample cards mix famous capitals with cities known for food, bright lights or skylines, Agra among them. On paper it is the Guess in 10 formula with a harder topic: guessers usually need to place the country before they can name the city, which suits children who already know a little world geography. As with every deck, the card-holder reads English aloud, and 50 cities will start to repeat for families who play often.
What people love
- Cities from several continents, from Agra and Hong Kong to London and Las Vegas
- Clues mix landmarks, food and nicknames, so guessers can reason their way to a city they don't know well
- Plays as two teams, which suits a family get-together
- A small box that travels well
Common complaints
- The card-holder has to read English clues and bonus questions aloud
- Harder than the animal decks: you often need to place the country before the city
- With 50 cards, families who play often will remember the answers
