The quick verdict
Full verdict ↓Great for Children of 3 to 6 learning about community helpers at nursery or KG
Think twice if Your child is 6 or older: Inspiring Professions has 50 jobs, from plumbers to archaeologists, plus clue cards
How we rate it
Learning curve. The rules come down to: pick a tile, ask, guess, win 7 cards. Skillmatics says it takes about 5 minutes to learn, so it sits at 1 on our scale with UNO. Describing a job is a little harder for small children than describing an animal, so a grown-up helps at first.
Luck & skill. Which helper you draw is luck. Choosing the tile that splits the helpers best, such as indoors or outdoors, is the small piece of skill older children pick up.
Interaction. Players take turns asking and answering about the hidden helper; there is no blocking or taking.
Set-up. Shuffle the 35 helper cards and keep the 10 guider tiles next to the guesser.
Reading. Skillmatics designed the Junior decks so that players need not read: the cards and tiles are pictures. Only the English manual needs a reader.
Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.
Is Guess in 10 Junior: Community Helpers right for you?
Great if
- Children of 3 to 6 learning about community helpers at nursery or KG
- Little ones who love playing doctor, teacher or firefighter
- A grandparent and grandchild chatting about the helpers they see in the neighbourhood
- A small, light return gift for a pre-schooler's birthday party
Skip it if
- Your child is 6 or older: Inspiring Professions has 50 jobs, from plumbers to archaeologists, plus clue cards
- You want to know every helper first: Skillmatics doesn't publish the list, so we can't say whether, say, a traffic police officer is in it
- You want a game the grown-ups will play by themselves: the 35 cards are pitched at pre-schoolers
How Guess in 10 Junior: Community Helpers plays
The box holds 35 community helper cards and 10 guider tiles. Skillmatics names firefighters, doctors and teachers among the helpers, and its box cover shows a pilot, a farmer, a nurse and a firefighter. One player draws a card and keeps it hidden; the other tries to work out who is on it.
- Time to teach: about 5 minutes.
- Reading and language: Players never have to read: helpers and questions are pictures. The rules leaflet is in English, and the talking can happen in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil or a mix, which suits grandparents who prefer their own language.

A turn, step by step
- 1Hide
The card-holder draws a community helper card and keeps it out of the guesser's sight.
- 2Ask
The guesser picks up a guider tile and asks its question, for example whether the helper works indoors or outdoors. There are up to 10 tiles per card.
- 3Win
Name the helper and keep the card; a wrong guess puts it in the discard pile. Collect 7 cards to win.
The full explanation: how a game of Guess in 10 Junior: Community Helpers goes
Each question comes from a guider tile: the guesser picks one up and asks what it suggests. Skillmatics' examples for this deck are how the helper helps us, what they wear, and whether they work indoors or outdoors. Whoever holds the card answers from the picture. A right guess wins the card and a wrong guess discards it; each card allows at most 10 tiles, and 7 cards win the game.
How this differs from the regular game: in Guess in 10 you may ask only yes-or-no questions, the card-holder reads English buzz words and clues off the card, and clue cards and bonus questions add extra choices. The Junior rules strip that away so a child who can't read can play a whole game: picture tiles in place of clues, one guess per card, and 35 cards instead of 50.
For older children, our Guess in 10: Inspiring Professions page covers Skillmatics' jobs deck for 6 and up. It has 50 cards running from nurses and plumbers to astronauts and archaeologists, with buzz words, clues and bonus questions to read. Community Helpers stays with the everyday helpers a small child already meets, and lets the pictures do the talking.
Before the first game, flip through the cards together and talk about each helper: where you have seen one, what they carry, what they wear. It makes the guessing far less frustrating for a 3-year-old, and the questions work just as well in your home language.

What reviewers and players say
There are no independent written reviews or forum threads about the Community Helpers deck that we could find. Skillmatics pitches it as a first question game for 3 to 6-year-olds about the people who help us, and a US public library lends it from its youth games shelf. Jobs are harder to describe than animals, so expect to help with the first few cards, and to move on to Inspiring Professions once your child is about 6.
What people love
- Fits the community helpers topic that nursery and KG classes cover
- Picture guider tiles mean a non-reader can still ask proper questions
- Questions about uniforms, workplaces and what helpers do build everyday vocabulary
- Works one-on-one or in teams, so siblings and cousins can join in
Common complaints
- No independent reviews yet, so it is hard to say how long the 35 cards hold interest
- Skillmatics doesn't publish the helper list, so you can't check for familiar local helpers before buying
- Children of 6 and up will want the fuller Inspiring Professions deck

Community Helpers is the Junior deck for ages 3 to 6: 35 picture cards and 10 guider tiles, with no reading. Inspiring Professions is for 6 and up, with 50 jobs, yes-or-no questions, clue cards and English clues that the card-holder reads aloud.
Can a child who can't read play Guess in 10 Junior?
