Great for Children of about 6 to 8 who are learning about their neighbourhood and the people who work there

Think twice if You want a deck you can check against the maker's current page: Skillmatics no longer lists this one

How we rate it

Learning curve. The rules take about two minutes: ask yes-or-no questions, win 7 cards. It sits at 1 on our scale with UNO; places take a little more thought than animals or vehicles.

Luck & skill. Which place you draw is luck, and a school is easier to pin down than a museum. Asking what happens at a place, and saving clue cards for the hard ones, decide most games.

Interaction. Two sides take turns asking and answering, and the card-holder has to answer fairly. There is no blocking or attacking.

Set-up. Shuffle the cards and give three clue cards to each player or team.

Reading. Guessers only talk. The card-holder reads English clue words, clues and bonus questions aloud, so a child who can't read yet should hold cards with a partner.

Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

Is Guess in 10: All Around the Town right for you?

Great if

  • Children of about 6 to 8 who are learning about their neighbourhood and the people who work there
  • A gentler step before Skillmatics' 8+ decks about countries and cities
  • Pairing a young guesser with an older cousin or grandparent who reads the cards
  • Car journeys and waiting rooms: it is one small box of cards

Skip it if

  • You want a deck you can check against the maker's current page: Skillmatics no longer lists this one
  • Nobody can read the English clues aloud for the youngest players
  • You want a strategy game: this is a gentle question-and-answer game

How Guess in 10: All Around the Town plays

Set-up: shuffle the place cards and give each player or team three clue cards. In Skillmatics' Guess in 10 rules, more than two players split into two teams, and the youngest player or team guesses first.

  • Time to teach: about 2 minutes.
  • Reading and language: The cards are in English, and whoever holds a card reads its clue words, clues and bonus question aloud. The guessers only talk, so questions and answers can be in Hindi, Bengali or any mix the family speaks. We found no Hindi or regional-language edition.

A turn, step by step

  1. 1
    Hint

The other side draws a place card, keeps it hidden and reads out two of its clue words.

  2. 2
    Ask

Ask up to 10 yes-or-no questions and make up to two guesses. A clue card buys one of the card's numbered clues.

  3. 3
    Bonus

After a right guess you may answer the bonus question: right gives you an extra clue word next time, wrong loses the card.

  4. 4
    Win

The first player or team to win 7 cards wins.

The full explanation: how a game of Guess in 10: All Around the Town goes

A turn: someone on the other side draws a card, keeps it hidden and reads out two of its clue words. You then ask up to 10 questions that can be answered yes or no, such as 'Do you go there to buy things?', 'Is it indoors?' or 'Do people in uniform work there?'. A question the card-holder can't answer doesn't count, and you get two guesses per card.

Clues and bonus questions: each card also has numbered clues, and spending one of your three clue cards gets one of them read out. After a right guess you can try the card's bonus question. Get it right and you start your next card with an extra clue word; get it wrong and you lose the card you just won.

How you win, and what's different: the first player or team to win 7 cards wins. The rules are the same as for the Animal Kingdom deck on our Guess in 10 page, but places are harder to narrow down than animals. Good questions ask what you do there, who works there and whether it is indoors or outdoors, so younger children may need a grown-up to suggest a few at first.

Tip: take it on a walk or drive through your own area afterwards and see how many of the places on the cards you can spot.

About the editions

Skillmatics, the Mumbai games company, makes this deck in India: Skillmatics' own photo of the box back (item SKILL58GAT) is printed 'Made in India'. Skillmatics has since taken it off its own shop and only other sellers sell it on Amazon.in, so check that the box carries the Skillmatics name and holds 50 game cards and 6 clue cards. Our Amazon.in link goes to the Skillmatics All Around the Town listing.

Before you choose

  • The box should carry the Skillmatics name and the Guess in 10 logo, with the deck called Around Town or All Around the Town.
  • Contents: 50 game cards (one place each), 6 clue cards and an instruction manual. Skillmatics' item code is SKILL58GAT and its barcode 8904279500471.
  • The listing should name Skillmatics as the brand and the model as SKILL58GAT.
  • Because Skillmatics no longer lists this deck, check that the box is sealed and the contents are complete when it arrives.

What reviewers and players say

We found no independent reviews or forum threads about the All Around the Town deck, so this rests on Skillmatics' own product page (archived in September 2025) and its 2020 videos: it is the usual Guess in 10 game with places in a town, such as a hospital, a bakery, an airport and an art gallery, instead of animals. Places are a little harder to question your way to than animals or vehicles, so it suits children who already enjoy the game or play with an adult on their team.

What people love

  • Places in a town that children know, from the hospital and the bakery to the airport
  • The same two-minute rules as other Guess in 10 decks
  • A gentler topic than the 8+ geography decks

Common complaints

  • The card-holder has to read English clues aloud
  • Skillmatics no longer lists the deck, so its current contents and box are harder to check
  • Places are harder to narrow down with yes-or-no questions than animals

Is Guess in 10 Around Town still made?

Skillmatics sold it on its Indian shop until at least September 2025, but it is no longer listed there, so it may have been discontinued. If you buy it, check that the box carries the Skillmatics name and holds 50 game cards and 6 clue cards.

How is it different from the Guess in 10 animal game?

The rules are the same as the Animal Kingdom deck on our Guess in 10 page; only the topic changes. You ask about what people do at a place and who works there instead of legs, food and habitats, which is a little harder for young children.

Is Guess in 10 Around Town made in India?

Yes. Skillmatics' own photo of the box back, for item SKILL58GAT, is printed 'Made in India', with Grasper Global Private Limited, Mumbai, as maker.
