The quick verdict
Full verdict ↓Great for Children of 3 to 5 who love spot-the-picture games
Think twice if You need a game for three or more children at once
How we rate it
Learning curve. Flip, spot, squeak: a three-year-old gets it after one card, so it sits with Dobble Kids and Snap Match Grande at 1.
Luck & skill. Which card comes up is luck; sharp eyes and quick hands decide almost everything else.
Interaction. Both players race for the same buzzer on every card.
Set-up. Hand each player a board, put the buzzer in the middle and shuffle the cards into a pile.
Reading. Shapes and patterns only, on the cards and the boards.
Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.
Is Pattern! right for you?
Great if
- Children of 3 to 5 who love spot-the-picture games
- A parent or grandparent and a pre-schooler playing one-on-one
- Quick rounds before dinner or bedtime
- Homes with mixed languages, since there is nothing to read
Skip it if
- You need a game for three or more children at once
- Your children are 6 or older and want more than a speed race
- Someone at home can't stand the sound of a squeaky buzzer
How Pattern! plays
Each player takes one of the two pattern boards. They are printed on both sides, so you can turn them over for a fresh game. Put the squeaky buzzer in the middle where both players can reach it, and shuffle the 50 pattern cards into a face-down pile.
- Time to teach: about 2 minutes.
- Reading and language: Nothing to read: the cards and boards are shapes and patterns, so any language works at the table.
A turn, step by step
- 1Flip
Turn over the top pattern card so both players can see it.
- 2Spot
Both players hunt for that pattern on their own board.
- 3Squeak
The first to find it squeaks the buzzer and points to the pattern.
- 4Win
Keep each card you win; whoever has more when the pile runs out wins.
The full explanation: how a game of Pattern! goes
Turn over the top card. Both players hunt for that pattern on their own board, and the first to find it squeaks the buzzer and points to it. GiniMini's instruction manual puts the goal in one line: be the first to spot the pattern on your board that matches the card, and squeak the buzzer.
Winning: a simple way to score is to give the card to whoever squeaked first with the right answer and play until the pile runs out; the player with more cards wins. Agree beforehand what happens after a wrong squeak, such as missing the next card. The manual in the box has GiniMini's exact rules.
The box also holds five shape cut-outs: a butterfly, a cloud, a footprint, an ice-cream cone and an oval. GiniMini's web page lists them without saying how they are used, so check the manual.
With a three-year-old, play gently: point to the right part of the board if they are stuck, or count to five before you look. Older children can play fast and strict. If your family knows Snap Match Grande, the idea is close, but here each player has a board of their own and squeaks a buzzer instead of ringing a bell.

What reviewers and players say
We found no independent reviews, blog posts, videos or forum threads about Pattern!, so this rests on GiniMini's own page and pictures. On paper it is a two-player version of the spot-the-match race that children know from Dobble Kids, made easier for pre-schoolers: each child has a board of their own, and a squeaky buzzer settles who was first. It should suit three- to five-year-olds playing with a grown-up, though older children will probably find it simple. GiniMini's web page says little about the rules, so read the manual before the first game.
What people love
- Nothing to read, so a three-year-old and a grandparent play on equal terms
- Each player has a board of their own, so nobody argues over a shared board
- The buzzer gives a clear answer to 'who was first?'
- Quick to set up and quick to play
Common complaints
- Only two players
- GiniMini's web page doesn't explain the shape cut-outs or how a game ends
- No independent reviews yet

Questions people ask about Pattern!
How do you play GiniMini Pattern!?
Each player takes a pattern board and a card is turned over. Both race to find the card's pattern on their own board, and the first to spot it squeaks the buzzer. The manual in the box has GiniMini's full rules.
What age is Pattern! for?
The box says 3 and up, and GiniMini aims it at children of 3 to 5. Older children can play too, but they may find it simple after a few games.
How many can play Pattern!?
Two, since there are two pattern boards, one for each player. With more children, play in teams that share a board, or let the winner take on the next child.
Is Pattern! like Dobble?
Both are races to spot a match first, but they work differently. In Dobble you compare two cards and call out the picture they share, for up to 8 players. In Pattern! two players each search their own board for the card's pattern and squeak a buzzer to claim it.
Is Pattern! made in India?
It comes from GiniMini, the kids' brand of Riseom Solutions Private Limited in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, which also sells it on Amazon.in. GiniMini's web page doesn't say where the box is made, so check the box if that matters to you.
