The quick verdict

How we rate it
Learning curve. Flip, decode, shout: it takes seconds to learn, so it sits at 1 on our scale with UNO.
Luck & skill. Which card comes up is luck, and a song you love is a gift; over a game, whoever knows more English music and reads emojis fastest wins.
Interaction. Everyone races on every card at once, so the whole table is shouting, and close calls over who answered first are part of the fun.
Set-up. Shuffle the cards and put the pile in the middle; nothing else to set up.
Reading. The clues are emojis; only the answers are words, so there is almost nothing to read.
Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

- Quick rounds at parties, before dinner or on trips: the box is small enough for a handbag
- Groups of up to 12, playing alone or in teams
- A small gift for a music-loving teenager
Skip it if
- Your group mostly listens to Hindi film songs: Gouda's Bollywood games suit you better

- You want a game with choices; this is pure recall and speed
How Jam Slam plays
Set-up: shuffle the 150 cards and put the pile in the middle. Play everyone for themselves or split into teams; Gouda says both work.
- Time to teach: about 2 minutes.
- Reading and language: The clues are emojis, so there is almost nothing to read, but every answer is an English song title: Gouda calls Jam Slam its Hollywood song game, and its sample cards include Rolling in the Deep, We Will Rock You and How to Save a Life. Players need to know English pop and rock music. For Hindi film songs, Gouda makes Bollywood Battle and Bollywood Beats.

A turn, step by step
- 1Flip

- 2Shout
Decode it and shout the song title; the first right answer wins the card.
- 3Win
The player or team with the most cards at the end wins.
The full explanation: how a game of Jam Slam goes
A turn: flip a card. Each card carries an emoji clue to a song title, and Gouda's sample cards include Rolling in the Deep, We Will Rock You, How to Save a Life and Pumped Up Kicks. Everyone races to decode it, and the first to shout the right song title wins the card.
Winning: Gouda's how-to-play picture says the player with the most cards wins. It doesn't say when to stop, so agree before you start on a number of cards or a time limit.
Tips: a player who doesn't know the songs can flip the cards and judge who answered first. For a sing-along twist, make whoever wins a card sing a few seconds of the song before keeping it.

What reviewers and players say
We found no independent reviews, videos or forum threads about Jam Slam, so this rests on Gouda Games' own description, pictures and a short promo video. On paper it is a quick, cheerful race: an emoji clue, a shouted song title, and the fastest player keeps the card. It should work well with teenagers and young adults who know English pop, and the small box makes it easy to carry. It is of little use to groups who mostly listen to Hindi film music, and with 150 cards a regular group will soon know the answers.
What people love
- Takes seconds to explain, and Gouda says a round lasts just a few minutes
- Emoji clues mean there is almost nothing to read
- A small box that fits in a bag for trips
- Works for 3 to 12 players, alone or in teams
Common complaints
- English songs only, so it's not for groups who mainly know Bollywood
- Once a group has been through the 150 cards, the answers repeat
- The rules don't say when a game ends
