The quick verdict

Full verdict ↓

Great for Cricket-mad children who want a match indoors in the monsoon or the summer holidays

Think twice if You have a toddler at home: the two small steel balls and little figures are a choking risk

How we rate it

Learning curve. Bowl, flick and count the runs. The only thing to learn is the scoring in the leaflet, which puts it at 1 on our scale with UNO and Connect 4.

Luck & skill. A steady hand and good aim matter, but where the ball bounces and stops is partly chance.

Interaction. It is batter against bowler, ball by ball, and every run the other player scores is one you have to chase.

Set-up. Spread the cloth, fit the 18 fence pieces round it, and place the stands, stumps, fielders and umpires. Allow longer the first time.

Reading. Nothing to read during play; the instructions are read once and scores are written in the score book.

Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

Is International Cricket right for you?

Great if

  • Cricket-mad children who want a match indoors in the monsoon or the summer holidays
  • Two brothers, sisters or cousins playing head to head, one batting and one bowling
  • Learning how cricket scoring works, with runs, wides and outs written in a score book
  • A cricket-themed birthday gift for a child of 8 or more

Skip it if

  • You have a toddler at home: the two small steel balls and little figures are a choking risk
  • You have no clear patch of floor about a metre across
  • You want a cricket game of cards and tactics; Qwicket suits that better

How International Cricket plays

Spread the green cloth ground on a smooth floor and stand the boundary fence around it. Put the batting stand and a set of stumps at one end and the bowling stand at the other, then place the ten fielders and the two umpires on the field. An adult may want to help the first time; after that it takes about five minutes.

  • Time to teach: about 5 minutes.
  • Reading and language: Nothing needs reading during play. Someone reads the instructions once, and the score book only needs runs and outs written in.

The full explanation: how a game of International Cricket goes

One player bowls the steel ball from the bowling stand towards the batter, and the other flicks the bat on the batting stand to strike it. Where the ball goes decides what happens: the leaflet in the box explains how runs, boundaries and outs are counted.

Write every ball in the score book, which is laid out like a real cricket scorecard. After the overs or wickets you agreed on, swap over. Whoever scores more runs wins, just like a real match.

Agree before you start how many overs each side gets, so nobody argues halfway through. When you stop, count both steel balls back into the box: they are small, roll under furniture and must be kept away from toddlers.

Counts from an Indian store's contents list for this Ratna's set; the maker's own pictures show the batting and bowling stands, ten fielders, two steel balls, the cloth ground and the score book with instructions. Another store counts 56 pieces, so small parts may vary between batches.

About the editions

International Cricket is Ratna's own game from Prem Ratna Toys, a Mumbai toy maker, so there is no imported version to compare. Our Amazon.in link goes to Ratna's current box, the one with the cloth ground, ten fielders, two umpires and two steel balls.

Before you choose

  • The box carries the Ratna's logo and the line 'Experience the thrills and excitement of international cricket'.
  • The box front says Age 8+.
  • Inside: a green cloth ground, a batting stand, a bowling stand, ten fielders, two umpires, stumps, bats, two steel balls and a score book.
  • Cricket floor games from other brands use similar names: check that the listing names Ratna's or Prem Ratna Toys as the maker.

What reviewers and players say

We found very little independent coverage of Ratna's International Cricket. There are two YouTube videos, an unboxing and game in Hindi from a large cricket channel (2023) that shows the Ratna's box, and a short English video from 2016 of an International Cricket board game whose brand we could not confirm; we found no written reviews or forum threads. On paper it is a simple, physical cricket game for two, with enough parts (fielders, umpires, stumps and a fence) to feel like a match, and a score book laid out like a real scorecard. How sturdy the stands and figures are over many matches is not known.

What people love

  • Looks like a real match on the floor, with fielders, umpires, stumps and a boundary fence
  • Simple to learn: bowl, flick the bat and count the runs
  • A score book laid out like a real cricket scorecard
  • No reading during play, so younger cricket fans can join in

Common complaints

  • Small steel balls and little figures make it unsafe around toddlers
  • Needs a clear stretch of floor and a few minutes of setting up each time
  • The full rules come only on the leaflet in the box; nothing is online

Questions people ask about International Cricket

How do you play Ratna's International Cricket?

Lay the cloth ground on the floor with the fence, stands, stumps and fielders. One player bowls the steel ball from the bowling stand and the other flicks the bat to strike it; the leaflet in the box explains how runs and outs are counted. Swap after the overs you agreed on, and the higher score wins.

What age is the International Cricket floor game for?

The box front says 8 and up, while the listing behind our Amazon.in link says 7 and up. Younger brothers and sisters can play alongside an adult, but keep the steel balls and small figures away from toddlers.

Is it safe for small children?

It has two small steel balls and little plastic figures, which a small child could swallow. Keep it away from babies and toddlers, check the box for the maker's age and safety warning, and count the balls back into the box after every game.

How much space does it need?

About a metre square of smooth floor. An Indian store gives the cloth ground as about 83 x 71 cm, and the fence stands around it, so a cleared patch of living-room floor works well.

How is it different from Qwicket or UNO Cricket?

Those are card games: Qwicket plays out overs with cards, and UNO Cricket is UNO with cricket artwork and two special cards. Ratna's International Cricket is a physical game in which you actually bowl a ball and hit it across a cloth ground.
