Great for Families where Dadi, Nana or a younger child reads Hindi more comfortably than English

Think twice if Everyone in your group reads English easily: the English pack has Hasbro's own online rules and far more how-to videos

How we rate it

Learning curve. Laying property sets is simple, but about a dozen kinds of action card, banking, paying with property and the no-change rule take a game to settle in. That puts it with Ticket to Ride and Codenames at 2 on our scale.

Luck & skill. The draw matters, and a single Deal Breaker can settle a game. Deciding what to bank, whom to charge and when to hold back a Just Say No is the skill.

Interaction. Most action cards are aimed at someone else: rent, steals, swaps and cancellations fly around the table every turn.

Set-up. Shuffle the 110 cards, deal five to each player and stack the rest face down. If someone at the table doesn't read Hindi, keep the reference cards or Hasbro's English rules nearby.

Reading. Money and property cards need almost no reading. Each action card has a short instruction, printed in Hindi in this pack.

Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

Is Monopoly Deal (Hindi edition) right for you?

Great if

  • Families where Dadi, Nana or a younger child reads Hindi more comfortably than English
  • Children in Hindi-medium schools who want a game they can read and run themselves
  • Train journeys, summer holidays and Diwali evenings with cousins, since it is one small deck
  • Mixed-language tables: money and property cards work the same whatever you read

Skip it if

  • Everyone in your group reads English easily: the English pack has Hasbro's own online rules and far more how-to videos
  • Someone at the table can't read Hindi and won't want the action cards explained for the first few games
  • Your group gets upset when a finished set is taken away, because Deal Breaker cards do exactly that

How Monopoly Deal (Hindi edition) plays

Shuffle the deck and deal five cards to everyone; the rest becomes the draw pile. Your goal is to be first to lay down three complete property sets, each in a different colour. The cards in this pack are the same as in the English game, only the words on them are in Hindi.

  • Time to teach: about 10 minutes.
  • Reading and language: Everything you read in this pack is in Hindi: the box, and the names and instructions on the action cards (Deal Breaker, for example, is printed as डील ब्रेकर with its instruction in Hindi). Money and property cards work by numbers and colours, so they need almost no reading in any language. For English cards, see our Monopoly Deal page.

The full explanation: how a game of Monopoly Deal (Hindi edition) goes

On your turn, draw two cards (five if your hand is empty), then play up to three. A money card, or an action card you don't need, goes face up into your bank. A property card goes into your collection on the table. An action card can instead be played for its effect: collect rent, take another player's property, swap one, or make everyone pay you on your birthday. At the end of your turn you may hold no more than seven cards.

When someone charges you, you pay from your bank or from the properties on the table, never from your hand, and nobody gives change. A Just Say No card cancels an action aimed at you, and a Deal Breaker takes a whole finished set, so the player who looks closest to winning is always the one under attack.

In a family where some people read Hindi and others prefer English, let a Hindi reader call out each action card as it is played for the first game or two. After that most players know the cards by their pictures and colours. Keeping a little money in the bank and saving a Just Say No for the right moment is how most comebacks happen.

About the editions

This pack is made in India for Indian buyers: the back of the Hindi box says Made in India, and Indian listings name Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai. There is no imported Hindi version to weigh it against. Our Amazon.in link goes to this Hindi pack; if you'd rather have English cards, our Monopoly Deal page links Hasbro India's English pack.

Before you choose

  • The box should carry the Monopoly and Hasbro Gaming logos, with Hindi text on the front (आयु 8+, खिलाड़ी) and the back, and 'Made in India' printed on the back.
  • Look for Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, and a BIS mark on the pack. Indian listings of the Hindi pack give the barcode 195166134796, and the item code on the listing ends in HD03.
  • Count the cards: the real deck has 110, including 28 property cards, 11 wild property cards, 20 money cards and 34 action cards.
  • Check an action card: in the real Hindi pack the card names and instructions are in Hindi, for example डील ब्रेकर on the Deal Breaker card.
  • Choose a listing that names Monopoly or Hasbro as the brand. 'Deal' card games from unrelated brands, or titles with a misspelt Monopoly, are different products.

What reviewers and players say

We found no reviews of the Hindi pack itself, so this reflects what reviewers say about Monopoly Deal, which is the same game. Reviewers like that it keeps Monopoly's colour sets, rent and deal-making but finishes in about 15 to 20 minutes with no dice or board, and that there is plenty happening between players on every turn. An Indian blogger calls it the only Monopoly edition he enjoys, but, like many players, he finds the Deal Breaker card too strong, since it can swipe a finished set and end the game in one play. Commenters on a long-running discussion thread describe it as a quick, portable family game that is light on strategy.

What people love

  • A full game takes about 15 to 20 minutes, with no dice and no hours-long endgame
  • Lots of interaction: rent, steals and Just Say No cards keep everyone involved
  • Familiar Monopoly money and properties make it easy to pick up
  • A small deck that travels well, and tactics change with the number of players

Common complaints

  • The Deal Breaker card can win a game in one play, so players hoard it and their Just Say No cards
  • The draw matters a lot, and some players find it light on strategy

Questions people ask about Monopoly Deal (Hindi edition)

Is Monopoly Deal available in Hindi?

Yes. Hasbro India sells a Hindi pack of Monopoly Deal, and our Amazon.in link goes to it. The box and the action cards are printed in Hindi, and the game plays exactly like the English version.

Are the Hindi Monopoly Deal rules the same as the English game?

Yes. It is the same 110-card game: draw two, play up to three cards, and be first to complete three property sets in different colours. Only the language on the cards and the box changes, so Hasbro's English rules and English how-to videos still apply.

Can someone who doesn't read Hindi play with the Hindi pack?

Mostly. Money and property cards work by numbers and colours, so anyone can use them. The action cards carry Hindi instructions, so a non-Hindi reader will need them explained for the first game or two, or can learn them from Hasbro's English rules.

Is the Hindi Monopoly Deal made in India?

Yes. The back of the Hindi box says Made in India, and Indian listings name Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai as the company behind it.

Do the property cards in the Hindi pack use Indian city names?

Indian store listings say the Hindi pack's properties are named after Indian cities rather than the usual Monopoly streets. We haven't checked the full card list, but colours and set sizes decide the game, so it plays the same either way.
