The quick verdict

Great for Train journeys, flights and car rides, when a full-size grid with loose discs would be a nuisance

Think twice if You already own the full-size Connect 4 and only play at home; this is exactly the same game, just smaller

How we rate it

Learning curve. There's one rule: get four in a row. Like the full-size game, it sits at 1 on our scale with UNO and Jenga.

Luck & skill. No dice and no cards: every move is a choice, so the player who looks further ahead wins.

Interaction. Every checker either builds your line or blocks your opponent's, so you watch each other's moves all game.

Set-up. The first time, an adult clips the two trays onto the grid and sticks on the Frozen 2 labels, which takes a few minutes. After that, fold out the trays, drop the checkers into the side columns and start.

Reading. Nothing to read during play; only the rules leaflet has words.

Learning curve: 1 = UNO or Connect 4; 3 = Catan; 5 = a heavy strategy game. These describe the experience, not an overall score.

Is Connect 4 Grab and Go: Disney Frozen 2 right for you?

Great if

  • Train journeys, flights and car rides, when a full-size grid with loose discs would be a nuisance
  • Children from 6 who love Frozen and are ready for a real two-player strategy game
  • A small gift or return gift for a Frozen fan that grown-ups will happily play too
  • Homes short on cupboard space: when it's shut, the checkers are stored inside the unit

Skip it if

  • You already own the full-size Connect 4 and only play at home; this is exactly the same game, just smaller
  • You want a game for three or more; it is strictly for two
  • There is a toddler at home who puts things in their mouth: the small checkers aren't for children under 3

How Connect 4 Grab and Go: Disney Frozen 2 plays

Set-up: the first time, an adult clips the two trays onto the bottom of the grid and sticks the Frozen 2 labels from the label sheet onto the unit. After that, fold out the trays, check that the slider tab is in the middle, open the lids at the top of the side columns and drop the checkers in: white on one side, blue on the other.

  • Time to teach: about 2 minutes.
  • Reading and language: Nothing to read during play: you just drop checkers and look for four in a row. Once someone explains the one rule, it works in Hindi, Tamil or any mix of languages; only the rules leaflet is in English.

A turn, step by step

  1. 1
    Drop

Slide one checker of your colour out of your side column and drop it into any slot at the top of the grid. It falls to the lowest empty space.

  2. 2
    Block

Before you drop, check your opponent's checkers. If they have three in a line with a space they can reach, put your checker there.

  3. 3
    Win

The first player with four of their colour in a row, across, up and down or diagonally, wins. Push the slider aside to release the checkers and play again.

The full explanation: how a game of Connect 4 Grab and Go: Disney Frozen 2 goes

A turn: decide who goes first, then take turns. On your turn, slide one checker of your colour out of your side column and drop it into any slot at the top of the grid. It falls to the lowest empty space, just as in the big game.

Winning: the first player to line up four of their colour across, up and down, or diagonally wins. If the grid fills with no line of four, it's a draw and Hasbro's rules simply say have a rematch. To play again, push the slider to the side to release the checkers, slide it back to the middle and refill the side columns.

How it differs from our full-size Connect 4: the big game is an upright grid that stands on two legs, with a slider bar along the bottom and 21 red and 21 yellow discs that sit loose in the box. The Grab and Go unit is a much smaller all-in-one grid: the checkers live in the side columns behind snap-shut lids, the trays fold up, and the whole thing closes into one piece for a bag. The rules and the thinking (block every open three, try to set up two threats at once) don't change; only the size, the storage, the colours and the Frozen 2 look do.

Tip: on a journey, finish each game by putting the checkers back in their columns and snapping the lids shut before anyone moves. The checkers are small and roll easily under a train seat, and a short best-of-five series, swapping who goes first, keeps it fair between brothers and sisters.

From the contents printed on the E7752 box back (shown in an Indian store's photo) and the listing details, which agree: a playing grid, 2 trays, 21 white checkers, 21 blue checkers, a label sheet and instructions. How the parts fit together comes from Hasbro's leaflets for the same travel unit in its plain and Marvel Avengers editions. The full-size Connect 4 has different parts: a bigger grid, two legs, a slider bar and 21 red and 21 yellow discs.

How to make sure you get a genuine copyEditions and the details worth checking.

About the editions

This travel edition is made in India: the E7752 box back says 'Made in India', and Indian listings name Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, as manufacturer and importer. Our Amazon.in link goes to that box, sold through Hasbro's own store on Amazon.in. If you mainly want Connect 4 for home, with bigger discs on a stand-up grid, look at our full-size Connect 4 page instead.

Before you choose

  • The box front should show the Hasbro Gaming and Connect 4 logos, the Grab & Go name and the Disney Frozen II logo, with the item number E7752.
  • Check the contents against the box back: a playing grid, 2 trays, 21 white checkers, 21 blue checkers, a label sheet and instructions.
  • Hasbro's unit stores each player's checkers in a lidded column on the side of the grid, has a slider tab that releases the checkers, and has two trays that fold out underneath.
  • Pocket four-in-a-row games from other brands, or Frozen-printed ones with no Hasbro logo, are not this product. A listing that uses the Connect 4 name but names another brand, or none, is not Hasbro's game.

What reviewers and players say

We found no written reviews or forum threads about the Frozen 2 edition, so this summary leans on Hasbro's own descriptions and on the classic game it shrinks. Hasbro pitches the Grab and Go unit for road trips, plane and train rides, with built-in storage for all 42 checkers and trays that fold away. The game inside is Connect 4 unchanged, which Wikipedia notes was mathematically solved in 1988, though nobody plays it perfectly at the dinner table. For Indian families it is the same quick, thinking game as the full-size box in a size that fits a school bag, with Frozen 2 artwork that makes it an easy pick for young fans; the trade-off is smaller checkers that are easier to lose.

What people love

  • Same rules as full-size Connect 4, so anyone who knows the game can play at once
  • Everything stores inside the unit: checkers in lidded side columns, trays folded up
  • Small and light enough for journeys and holidays
  • Frozen 2 artwork that young fans recognise

Common complaints

  • The checkers are small and easy to lose on a journey
  • The grid is much smaller than the full-size game's, so it's less fun for a group watching
  • An adult has to fit the trays and stick on the labels the first time

Questions people ask about Connect 4 Grab and Go: Disney Frozen 2

What is the difference between Connect 4 and Connect 4 Grab and Go?

The rules are the same: drop checkers into the grid and be first to get four in a row. Grab and Go is Hasbro's travel version, a small all-in-one grid that stores both players' checkers in lidded side columns and has fold-up trays. The full-size game has a bigger grid on two legs and loose discs.

Is Frozen 2 Connect 4 the same game as normal Connect 4?

Yes. Only the look changes: Frozen 2 labels decorate the unit, and the checkers are white and blue instead of red and yellow. Each player still has 21 checkers, and the first to line up four wins.

What age is Connect 4 Grab and Go Frozen 2 for?

Hasbro rates it for 2 players aged 6 and up. The checkers are small, so keep them away from children under 3, and an adult should fit the trays and stick on the labels the first time.

Is Connect 4 Grab and Go Frozen 2 made in India?

Yes. The E7752 box back says 'Made in India', and Indian listings name Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, as the company behind it.

How do you store the checkers in Connect 4 Grab and Go?

Push the slider to the side to drop the checkers out of the grid, then put them back into the two side columns, one colour on each side. Snap the lids shut and fold up the trays, and the whole game becomes one closed unit.
